產品介紹 The protein encoded by this gene is a lysosomal cysteine proteinase that plays a major role in intracellular protein catabolism. Its substrates include collagen and elastin, as well as alpha-1 protease inhibitor, a major controlling element of neutrophil elastase activity. The encoded protein has been implicated in several pathologic processes, including myofibril necrosis in myopathies and in myocardial ischemia, and in the renal tubular response to proteinuria. This protein, which is a member of the peptidase C1 family, is a dimer composed of disulfide-linked heavy and light chains, both produced from a single protein precursor. At least two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene.

在病理狀態下,因各種原因所致的細胞損傷(如病原微生物、炎癥因子、氧化應激等)可降解細胞成分或細胞間質基質成分,包括層粘素、IV型膠原纖維及纖維連接素等,與人類許多疾病如腫瘤的浸潤與轉移、關節炎、骨質疏松、阿爾茨海姆病、多發性硬化癥及其他慢性炎癥性疾病有關.
